Protection With a Price   9/22/02

She sang to me on
waves of uncertainty.
She enclosed my heart
in her delicate hand.

She whispered to me
on nights of complicated stars -
in dreams I never remembered.

She touched me in places I never felt,
on planes I couldn't reach.

She looked at me with
eyes that never stopped
and a stare that burned my memories.

I still see it all - every song -
every whisper - every gaze.
It seeps through all the holes
I created to protect my sanity.

My heart never skips a beat.
It's still under her delicate,
magical, precious protection.

I recall the day I gave it to her.
The sun was beaming and so was I.
She promised to love me through
all the pain.
There was much to tell her,
but I was dumb.
My tongue was somehow
yanked out from guilt.

She touched my face
and lightning scratched...
no... lit my world.

I gave her everything and she soaked it all in.
I was empty - groping for that magical caress.
She was gone without a trace and
I have not felt my heart since.

She sings to me on the ocean
and waves of regret.
She locked my heart in a box
with no key to release.

My dreams are full of whispers -
empty shadows of what could have been.
All I wanted was to love completely,
to be loved deeply.

My memories will fade.
My love would like too,
but I doubt my heart will alter.
After all, it is surrounded
by her smooth, delicate, hand.
another dream sequence
