The White Pachyderm in the Room 2/22/09
I wish I knew what you were thinking.
There was a time I used to know.
Our ship has long been sinking.
Have I been holding on this long just to let go?
Tell me there's a way to fix our dismay.
Are there other paths we could take
to avoid our eventual break?
We took our vows with forever in mind.
Are we willing to leave all this behind?
I cannot pinpoint when we stopped caring.
I was unaware it was possible.
Have we exhausted all our options?
I am not one to give up so quickly.
Nothing worthwhile is easy.
It was a gradual erosion. How many storms
have we weathered? What's left to salvage?
So we sit in utter silence - too afraid to say
the truth that crouches at the door -
ready to pounce on our resolve.
I let you down again - you dampened my spirit.
We were two intertwined lines that broke apart
in opposite directions, unsure how to get back to one.
We cannot go on like this.
We are the walking dead.
Despite the pain and chaos, I cannot imagine
my life without you in it.
Take my hand dear one - we can find a way.
When divorce is not part of the equation,
the answer becomes very different.
