The Lady of Winter 3/18/09
She speaks in cryptic riddles and
half-crazed mutterings.
If I pay close attention, there
are gold nuggets of wisdom.
Sometimes she gets lost in her
thoughts and her eyes have
a far off gaze...like she sees
something everyone else misses.
She has no family or a home to speak of.
The streets she frequents are dirty
and so are her shredded clothes.
She shivers as she shares her sad stories.
I am enchanted as she wonders
where it all went wrong.
Her past is shadows and splinters.
Unbearable pain washes over her
aged face and tears flow as she sips
on the chicken soup I bring everyday.
At times I speak consolingly -
most times I just listen intently -
waiting for those glimpses of
her brilliance, her snippets of light.
As the sun sets and I give her a blanket
for the frigid nights, I sigh and say goodbye.
I go home to reflect.
My worst day is better than her best.
I pray not to take these things for granted.
God, please place your grace upon the lady of winter.
That is all I ask....

Baritone Jazz
But why such an ungainly horn,
what persuaded you try?
-I was still unschooled when
I first heard the baritone’s dark voice
singing melancholy music,
sounding the heart of love.
Listening, I heard an aching lover
rejoice, even while his anguish
echoed within the sad chambers
of his damaged heart.
I heard how I could make
that melancholy voice my own.

Somewhere in Time
In a fickle world, in a town that was forever reinventing itself, the shop was a constant. It had presided over the corner of Abbott Street and Lillian Lane for nearly a century and a half. There had been subtle changes, of course, but they were minimal compared to the upheaval that had taken place in the pastoral town around it. It was not, Kael realized, so pastoral anymore. He marvelled wistfully at the transformation as he drove through the outskirts towards the shop… where Lorelei would be waiting. She always was.
Where once there had been rolling meadows and farmland, now Kael sped past pool supply stores, fast food joints,

Lakeside Zejel
Alongside the morning sun, the pale moon still glows
And I rise, listening t the stream as it flows
As it sings in harmony with the verdant forest boughs
Rising to my feet, for a moment I stand still
Listening as a zephyr dances where it will
Standing awestruck by the spring's vast poetic skill
And songbirds sing as each flower begins to grow
As the light mist vanishes from the lake
The sorrow deep within my soul I try to shake
But the ripples in the water soothe my heartache
And for the briefest of moments, God's mercy shows

Wonderful
I do see the resemblance,
On my poem and this one,
The main point, is the same,
A very sad realityas well!
You are right... "what went wrong?"
